The A+ certification demonstrates technical competency in the hardware and operating system basis.  Created for working professionals that have at least 500 hours (3 months) of work experience, this certificate measures your competence in computer hardware and operating system practical knowledge.  

CompTIA is a non-profit organization that was formed in the early 1980s and currently sponsors certifications in the hardware, Operating system, network, security, Server and other foundations of technology.  As a “vendor neutral” certification, A+ measures practical application of knowledge for Microsoft, Apple, Novell and Linux products.     
CompTIA A+ Hardware and Operating System certification measures the applicants understanding of core hardware components (motherboards, hard drives,random access memory, etc.) and core operating system features.
